Responsibilities

Below are explanations of a few of the responsibilities that I had during this project. There were many outside of the ones that are listed which are shown on the calendar.

On Duty
1 on 1
Socializing

Whenever the housing office is closed there is always two RAs that are on duty who have a cell phone that all residents have the number for. The RA is also given a bag with the tools and resources that they might need, including a set of keys. A majority of the calls that I received while on duty were residents who were locked out of their rooms for whatever reason. These situations are relatively simple to handle. Other examples of calls that I have received while on duty are noise complaints, family members trying to reach residents, and suspected drug use on housing property. Each situation is handled differently and these calls can occur at any time that I had the phone, including the middle of the night.

In addition to office hours and staff meeting, I also had a 1 on 1 meeting every week with my direct supervisor. Every Wednesday from 2-2:45 I would have an individual meeting where we would discuss what was going on on the floor, things that I needed help with, and things that I needed to improve on. This was a good time for me to ask questions and get help that I needed if I wasn’t sure how to handle something, whether it was related to a resident or to myself. I  was able to get constructive criticism and apply it to my performance.

During the week I tried to

stop by to see as many of my residents as possible. On the calendar when it states socializing, that refers to time that I spend knocking on residents doors, and spending time with them, either one on one, or in groups in order to form connections with them and build relationships.
